Literacy Through Photography (LTP) is the school and community-based education program created by FotoFest International to help students in grades 3-12 strengthen basic learning skills, particularly writing and critical thinking skills. It is a comprehensive program that includes curriculum and teacher training. LTP uses photography and visual imagery as tools to stimulate students’ writing, analytic abilities and communication skills.

LTP has been working in Houston schools for twenty-five years, and teachers widely praise its ability to stimulate students’ engagement in classroom learning by advancing their technical, creative and higher-order thinking skills.

“LTP helped the children become more aware of the world around them and gave them more than one way to share their creative works. Their smiles and laughter were always present as they read or showed pictures because they felt each assignment was special. LTP gave them the tools to write scripts, make visual works, and express themselves verbally in class.”

- Lindy Meador, Retired Teacher and Volunteer, Wharton Dual Language Academy

LTP is now used in more than 9 school districts in the greater Houston area as well as various cities throughout the United States.
